Nayana Unmeelanam
The ritual symbolises Opening of the Eyes for all deities. There are nine types of important rites associated with this ceremony, including the ritual of opening the eyes of the idols using a golden and silver needle. This is a highly auspicious occasion, symbolizing the awakening of divine consciousness within the idol.
It is believed that this sacred act is performed only once — by qualified priests under specific planetary and astrological alignments — before the deity becomes active and ready for worship.
Upon completion of these rituals, all the deities are formally sanctified, preparing the temple for the grand Kumbabhishekam ceremony.
Benefits
Witnessing this ceremony is considered a rare and divine opportunity, as it marks the moment when the deity comes to life spiritually.
Sayanaathi Vasam
This sacred tradition is done before the installation of the divine idols in the temple. During this ceremony, it is believed that all the deities are in a state of divine repose, symbolizing the cosmic rest before awakening. Through this ritual, the divine energy (Śakti) is invoked into the idols, sanctifying them with spiritual consciousness and life force.
It marks the transition from the inert form of the idol to the living presence of the Lord, ready to receive the devotion and prayers of the devotees.
Benefits
This auspicious rite is performed only once, at the time of consecration, when the deity is newly installed in the sanctum.
