2nd Kaala Puja & Tailabhishekam

The Kumbabhishegam Organizing Committee of Siva Vishnu Temple of Ottawa welcomes you all for Tailabhishekam on 13th December 2025 from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Temple premises.

Tailabhishekam - This is the ritual of application of oil to the deities is a significant preparatory step. The primary oil used for deities in temple rituals is sesame oil (til or gingelly oil).

Purpose in Temple Rituals

• Cleansing: The oil helps dissolve dust and accumulated particles on the idol (vigraham), which are then washed away with other libations.

• Protection: The continuous oiling helps keep the stone or metal deity cool, counteracting the heat generated by constant oil lamps and aarti (camphor flame) within the Garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum), which could otherwise cause cracks in the idol.

• Spiritual Significance: Sesame oil is considered sacred in Hinduism and is believed to absorb negative energies and purify the temple's atmosphere.

We look forward to welcoming you all with your family and friends, and not miss the unique opportunity of applying oil onto the deities with your hands.

Thank you
